How does LocoGPS work?

The LocoGPS tracker determines its location using GPS, Galileo and GLONASS satellites and sends the data to our server over the mobile network. Unlike Bluetooth trackers such as AirTags, the LocoGPS tracker works without any range limit, wherever there is mobile reception.

What is the difference between LocoGPS and AirTags?

AirTags use Bluetooth and rely on Apple devices being nearby. If your dog is out of range, an AirTag cannot locate it. LocoGPS uses GPS and the mobile network to deliver accurate live location data, no matter whether other devices are nearby.

Why do I need a subscription?

The LocoGPS tracker contains a built-in SIM card with a flat-rate data plan that uses local mobile networks to send you location data. All necessary fees are included in your subscription, with no hidden costs and no extra SIM fees.

Does my subscription renew automatically?

The monthly subscription renews automatically for one month at a time and can be cancelled monthly. Annual and 2-year subscriptions do not renew automatically for the full term. From 30 days before the end of the term, you can actively renew at the discounted price. If you do nothing, your subscription continues as a monthly subscription that you can cancel monthly. Details in the article Extend your subscription term.

What is the tracker's range?

The tracker works over any distance. You can locate your pet even from the other side of the world, as long as there is mobile coverage where the tracker is.

Do I need an app?

You can use the tracking portal both in your web browser at live.locogps.de and in the LocoGPS app. The app is available for iOS and Android at locogps.de/app-download. Some features such as the Bluetooth search are only available in the app.

Can I try LocoGPS without a tracker?

Yes. On the login page you will find Demo Mode. With it you can test the app for 5 minutes with a simulated dog, without an account or a tracker.

Battery

How long does my tracker's battery last?

The actual battery life depends a lot on the location interval you have set:

  • Very precise (1 min) and Precise (2 min): shorter battery life
  • Balanced (5 min): medium battery life
  • Energy Saver (10 min): long battery life
  • Daily only: very long battery life
  • Deep sleep (hourly, offline in between): maximum battery life

WiFi Energy Zones and energy saving geofences extend battery life even further when your dog is at home.

How do I charge the tracker?

The tracker is charged with the magnetic charging cable that comes with it. Connect it to a USB power source (5V). The LED shows that it is charging.

What does the yellow battery indicator mean?

A yellow battery level (30 to 59 percent) means that the battery is about half charged. Below 30 percent, the battery level is shown in red. With notifications you can get a warning when the battery is low.

Technical data

Is the tracker waterproof?

Yes, the tracker has an IP67 rating. It is protected against temporary immersion in water and suitable for all weather conditions.

How heavy is the tracker?

The tracker weighs only about 32 grams, so it is also suitable for smaller dogs.

Privacy

Who can see my device's position?

By default, only the account owner can see the positions. If you create a share link, other people can also see the location, but only for the period you choose and without access to settings.

Is my data stored?

Position data is stored on our servers so that we can provide the route history and activity analysis. You can find more information in our privacy policy.
