Dog map with poop bags, dog parks and poison bait warnings

Updated on 10 October 20262 min read

You can show places on the map that help on your walks, for example poop bag dispensers, dog parks or the nearest vet. You also see poison bait reports from other LocoGPS users and can report findings yourself.

Show and hide layers

  1. Tap the layers icon on the right side of the map.
  2. Under Dog map, choose what you want to see.

You can choose from:

  • Poop bags and bins with poop bag dispensers, dog waste bins and dog toilets
  • Dog parks, meaning designated off leash areas
  • Drinking water on the way
  • Vets, with opening hours and phone number where known
  • Animal shelters
  • Dog schools and more with dog schools, dog boarding, pet shops and dog groomers
  • Parks, mainly useful in the satellite view
  • Nature reserves, where dogs often have to stay on the leash

The icons appear once you zoom in far enough. Tap an icon to see details. The app remembers your choice on each device.

Where the places come from

The places come from OpenStreetMap, a free world map maintained by volunteers. We update them every week. Coverage is usually good in cities, while some places are missing in the countryside. If a poop bag dispenser or a dog park is missing, you can add it yourself on openstreetmap.org, and it will show up with us after the next update. Whether dogs really have to stay on the leash in a nature reserve is shown on the signs on site.

Poison bait reports

Red warning icons show findings reported by other LocoGPS users. Tap an icon to see when it was reported and what was written about it. Reports are not verified. So please always report findings to the police or the local authorities as well.

If the bait is still there, tap Still there, which keeps the report visible for longer. If it is gone, tap Gone. After a few such answers the report disappears. Without any answers a report expires on its own after 14 days.

Report a finding

  1. Tap the layers icon on the map and then Report poison bait.
  2. Move the map until the cross is on the spot and tap Next.
  3. Choose what you found, add a short description if you like and tap Report.

Your report is visible to other LocoGPS users, but without your name. Please do not write names or addresses into the description. You can report and answer if one of your trackers has an active subscription, including the free trial. This keeps the warnings reliable. You can remove your own report at any time with Withdraw report.

Push alert

When a new report comes in near your tracker, you get a push notification. What counts is the last location of your tracker, within about 3 kilometres. You can turn the alert off in the layers menu under Push for reports nearby.
