Can't see your WiFi?
Your tracker uses a particularly power-efficient WiFi chip. That is great for battery life, but it comes with a catch. The chip does not understand some of the newest radio technology that certain current routers use. Your WiFi is perfectly fine in that case, the tracker just cannot see it when scanning.
Good to know, the tracker never connects to a WiFi network and does not need a password. It only remembers that a certain network is nearby. That is why all four options below work equally well.
Usually one of the free options does the trick. If you prefer not to tinker at all, option 4 is a ready-made plug-in solution for about 20 euros.
Option 1, use another nearby network (free, works right away)
The scan often shows other networks, for example your neighbor's or one from a smart home device such as a robot vacuum, a printer or a smart plug. If one of them is received reliably at your home, you can simply select it. You do not need a password.
Option 2, change a router setting (free)
Many routers have a WiFi mode setting. Switch it to "802.11 b/g/n mixed" or compatibility mode, and the tracker will see your WiFi. This setting is available on many models from TP-Link, Asus, Netgear and on the Speedport. Current Fritz!Box models unfortunately no longer offer it.
Option 3, an old router from the drawer (free)
Almost any router from before around 2018 broadcasts in a way the tracker detects out of the box. It only needs a power outlet, no DSL and no cable, because the tracker never connects to it. Just plug it in, wait a moment and scan again.
Option 4, a small plug-in router (one-time cost of about 20 to 25 euros)
If none of the other options work for you, there are small plug-in routers like the TP-Link TL-WR802N. Just plug it in, you do not need to configure anything.
This is a regular Amazon link, we do not earn anything from it. It is simply the device that worked most reliably in our tests.
Placement tip, put the router near the center of your home and not right next to a window, so the energy zone does not grow larger than your home.
